FINS Dune Grass Planting

The Surfrider Foundation, The Environmental Club, & The American Littoral Society are looking for volunteers of ALL ages to help plant dune grass in Bradley Beach on January 28th @ 10:30AM.
On the day of the event FINS will be giving 25% off to ALL Volunteers!!!
DID YOU KNOW?
Sand dunes serve an important purpose by protecting inland areas from coastal water intrusion.
Joe Vietri, Director of Coastal and Storm Risk Management for the Army Corps of Engineers stated in the New York Times after Hurricane Sandy that the dunes proved vital in protecting boardwalks, people’s homes, and blunting the storm overall. “The difference was dramatic for areas with vital and healthy dune systems, which did better than those that did not,” he says.
They are able to absorb the impact and protect inland areas from high energy storms and act as a resilient barrier to the destructive forces of wind and waves.
They can also serve as sand storage areas that supply sand to eroded beaches during storms and buffer windblown sand and salt spray.

Dunes also serve as a habitat for multiple animals. A number of rodents, some of which are becoming increasingly rare, utilize dune habitats.
Many species of shorebirds utilize dunes for feeding; and several species also nest in dune habitats.
Reptiles are also common inhabitants of dunes. Several species of anoles and snakes rely on these dunes for their survival.

How to Play
Every player starts off with a $50,000,000 Salary Cap.
Each surfer in the contest is worth a certain value.
Create a team of surfers you think will do the best at each of the different waves on tour.
Each surfers’ value may change throughout the season based on their performance, however, the cost to you won’t change as long as they remain on your team.

You can leave your team the same all season,
create a different team for each contest,
or keep a core team and make small adjustments (suggested strategy)
